European aerospace giant Airbus has expanded its footprint in India by inaugurating a major technology centre in Bengaluru, reinforcing the country’s growing importance in the global aviation and aerospace ecosystem. The newly opened facility is expected to play a key role in advancing engineering innovation, digital transformation, and customer support services for Airbus’ worldwide aircraft operations.
The new campus, known as the Airbus India Technology Centre, is spread across nearly 880,000 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate around 5,000 employees. Designed as a large-scale global capability hub, the facility consolidates several critical Airbus functions under one roof, including engineering, digital development, procurement, and customer service operations.
The centre was inaugurated in the presence of senior government officials and aerospace industry leaders. Jürgen Westermeier described the new campus as a major milestone in Airbus’ long-term expansion strategy in India. According to him, the facility will help the company scale its technological capabilities while strengthening innovation ecosystems and customer support operations linked to Airbus’ global aircraft programmes.
The Bengaluru hub will support the entire lifecycle of Airbus aircraft and helicopter programmes. Engineers and digital specialists working at the facility will contribute to aircraft design, development, maintenance support, and performance optimisation. The centre will also focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and advanced digital engineering platforms that are increasingly becoming integral to modern aviation systems.
One of the major goals of the facility is to deepen India’s role in Airbus’ global value chain. Over the past few years, Airbus has significantly expanded its sourcing and manufacturing partnerships in India. The company’s annual procurement from Indian suppliers has already crossed 1.5 billion dollars, and Airbus expects this figure to grow further in the coming years as the country strengthens its position as a major aerospace manufacturing and technology hub.
India’s rapidly expanding aviation market also makes the country strategically important for global aircraft manufacturers. As airlines continue to place large aircraft orders and air travel demand rises, the need for engineering talent, maintenance expertise, and digital aviation solutions is increasing. The Bengaluru technology centre is expected to help Airbus address these needs by leveraging India’s strong pool of engineering and technology professionals.
The campus will also house a dedicated customer services centre designed to support Airbus operators worldwide.
